Bylo jednou za starých časů v malé, malebné vesničce u řeky Labe horské městečko Špindlerův Mlýn. Ve vesnici žil statečný a dobrodružný mladík jménem Bouda. Bouda byl odhodlaný zachránit vesnici před nebezpečným drakem, který se usídlil na vrcholu nedaleké hory. Jednoho dne se Bouda vydal na cestu na vrchol hory, aby se postavil tváří v tvář drakovi. Cesta byla dlouhá a obtížná, ale Bouda neztrácel odvahu. Procházel temnými lesy, překonával řeky a přelézal skaliska až dorazil na vrchol. Tam už na něho čekal obrovský drak se šupinatou kůží a ohnivými očima. Bouda však nebyl lekavý a vzal do ruky meč. Začal s drakem bojovat a použil všechny své síly a dovednosti. Byl to těžký boj, ale Bouda neztrácel naději. Po dlouhém zápase se Boudovi podařilo draka porazit. Jeho odvaha a statečnost ho vynesly jako vítěze. Drakovo ohnivé dýchnutí se změnilo v malou obláčkovou dešťovou bouřku, která zalévala políčka okolo hor. Vesničané ve Špindlerově Mlýně sledovali tento boj z dálky a když viděli, že Bouda draka porazil, byli nadšení. Rozhodli se mu postavit sochu na náměstí jako věčnou památku na jeho statečnost.
