Byl jednou jeden malý městečko jménem Chrást. Bylo to pěkné a veselé místo plné šťastných lidí. Všechny důmky v Chrástu byly útulné a hezké, ale nejkrásnější byl Lidový dům. Ten se tyčil na náměstí, a když na něj svítilo slunce, zářil celým městem. Lidový dům byl vybudován starým moudrým stavitelářem, který ho postavil s láskou a péčí.
