Byla jednou hospoda U kance, která se nacházela na samotě u Staré Vody. Tato hospoda byla známá po celém kraji díky svému chutnému pivu a skvělému jídlu, které zde připravovala paní hospodská Pavla. Jednoho dne se do hospody U kance přiřítil mladý muž s dýcháním a zoufalým výrazem na tváři. Volal o pomoc a tvrdil, že jeho matku zachvátila nenávratná nemoc.
